The Egyptian Parliament Agreed to Amend the President's Term of Office for 6 Years

According to the Egyptian portal MASRAWY reported on April 16, in the plenary session chaired by Dr. Ali Abdel-Aal, President of the Egyptian Parliament, an overwhelming majority vote was adopted to approve the relevant provisions of the proposed constitutional amendment to approve the President’s term of office for six years. Effective immediately.Article 140 of the Constitution stipulates that the President of the Republic shall be elected for a period of six years from the date of expiration of his predecessor’s term and shall not be re-elected for more than two terms.The parliamentarians also approved a supplementary clause on the content of the “transition period”. Article 241 states: “The term of the current president will expire six years after he was elected president of the Republic in 2018. He can be re-elected.”
